The Air Force Association (AFA) is an independent, nonprofit, civilian education organization promoting public understanding of aerospace power and the pivotal role it plays in the security of the nation. 

Our mission as the General Charles L. Donnelly Chapter of AFA is to educate the public; advocate aerospace power and a strong national defense; support the United States Air Force, the Air Force family, and aerospace education; and maintain the outstanding relationship between Sheppard AFB and the surrounding communities.

The Chapter was named in honor of General Charles L. Donnelly (1929-1994).  He entered the USAF in 1951 and after a stellar career as a fighter pilot, served as the Commander of the Technical Training Center at Sheppard AFB

before being assigned as the Commander of U.S. Forces Japan (1981-1984) and finally retiring as the  Commander USAFE in 1987.  He then served as the AFA Executive Director from 1988-1989

Sheppard AFB is the largest and most diversified training base in AETC.  In addition to on-site training groups, the 82nd Training Wing supports a worldwide network of training detachments
